The Sever military group has liberated Goncharovka.

On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the Sever (North) military group had liberated Goncharovka, a locality in the Kursk region that had been occupied by Ukrainian troops since August 2024.

This locality is home to about 3,000 inhabitants and is located on the outskirts of Sudzha, another town that Ukrainian forces had used as an operations center but was liberated by Russian troops on Thursday.

The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that its troops repelled enemy counterattacks and inflicted heavy casualties on the Ukrainian army in Kursk and the neighboring Sumy region.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to Kursk for the first time, where he ordered the destruction of Ukrainian “terrorists” in the region. By that time, Russian forces had already reclaimed 86% of the territory occupied by the enemy.

“I am confident that all the missions assigned to our combat units will be completed unconditionally and that the Kursk region will be fully liberated from the enemy in the near future,” the Russian leader said while visiting the Russian troops’ command post in Kursk.

On Thursday, Putin supported the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine proposed by the U.S. but raised questions about the future of the Ukrainian soldiers still fighting in Kursk.

Currently, the Russian army is tightening its encirclement of Ukrainian forces in Kursk, who will soon be trapped inside Russian territory. For this reason, Putin urged Ukraine to order its soldiers to surrender and lay down their weapons.
